Diners at the McDonald’s on Shelburne Road in South Burlington were in for a shock when police say live ammunition was thrown at a grill inside the restaurant. South Burlington police said they were called to McDonald’s restaurant just after 5 p.m. Sunday for a report of a disturbance involving a firearm.Police said an employee had reportedly removed ammunition from a handgun and threw three live rounds onto the grill, causing them to explode, while continuing to act erratically. Police said no injuries were reported. All employees and guests evacuated the restaurant.When police got there, they set up a perimeter and began negotiating with the male employee, who was still in possession of the handgun and additional ammunition.After a short time, police said the employee agreed to leave the gun inside and come out, where he was detained.The employee was taken to UVM Medical Center for evaluation.This incident is still under investigation, criminal charges will be contemplated once the investigation is complete. The South Burlington Police Department is asking that anyone who may have information regarding this incident to contact Cpl. Williamson, (802) 846-4111.
